The efficiency of using carbon fabrics and fibers as a source of carbon demonstrated. Experimental and model research was conducted as to the influence of a high-carbon layer application on the structure formation. It has been revealed that the heat source power, chemical composition of the filler material, surface density (thickness) of the carbon fabric have the greatest influence on the process provision. The plan of experimental study was elaborated and the regression analysis of the obtained results was conducted, which has made it possible to determine rational parameters and modes of the coating application. Modeling of the process of temperature fields and stresses formation during the high-carbon coating creation was performed as well as the model identification according to the elaborated procedure and the conducted experimental study. It was found that the value and sign of residual stresses in the high-carbon layers after their application are the function of the geometry of the part where the coating is formed, of the trajectory of the coating-forming electrode, the power and the type of the metal transfer.
