Nowadays there is no effective therapy to promote recovery following ischemic insult. Neural stem cells have been proposed as a potential source of new cells to replace those lost due to central nervous system injury, as well as a source of trophic molecules to minimize damage and promote recovery. In our study the ischemic insult in FVB line mice was modulated by occlusion of both carotid arteries during 20 min. Day after occlusion NPCs from GFP-transgenic embryos were suboccipital transplanted to the ischemic brain. The migration and differentiation of GFP-positive NSCs in the recipient tissue were observed in different time points after their transplantation by immunohistochemical approaches using confocal scanning microscopy. It has been shown that GFP-positive NSCs survived, migrated and differentiated to the mature neurons and glial cells in the hippocampus of ischemic animals.
