Information × Registration Number 0212U004845, 0109U000433 , R & D reports Title Develop scientifically motivated activities on reduction of mortality rate from malignant neoplasms of the urban population of the Ukraine popup.stage_title Head Shchepotin Igor Borisovych, Registration Date 06-02-2012 Organization Ukrainian Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology popup.description2 It is established that for the period 1969-2007 the rate of cancer incidence in urban male population of Ukraine has increased from 183,4 to 366,5 per 100000, or by 99,8%; in urban female population cancer incidence rate has increased from 198,4 to 347,2 per 100000, or by 75,0%; the cancer mortality rate in urban male population has increased by 52,2%; in urban female population it has increased by 24,0%. As for male population, since year 2000 the mortality rate has decreasing trend while in female population a slight increase is observed. The state economic losses of premature death from cancer of population in working age, reaches 997,8 million USD. The main shortcomings in the organization of cancer care to the population is late detection of disease, inadequate coverage of special treatment, lack of beds and low level of material and technical support of cancer institutions, violation of the requirements for dispensary observation of cancer patients. It is established that over 40% of cancer patients are treated in general hospitals, without complying with standards of treatment. The 5-year survival rate of cancer patients who received treatment in cancer institutions is 17-19% higher than of those treated in non-specialized institutions. The activities to reduce mortality from cancer in urban population of Ukraine, covering legal, economic, medical and social aspects of the problem, have been developed.
