Correlation between high TMV content and elevated zinc concentration in plant tissues has been shown for the first time. Zinc amended at 5 MPC delays systemic transport of TMV in tobacco. Cytoplasmic inclusions of TMV in mesophyll cells become less structurally compact and dense as affected by zinc. Combined effect of virus infection and heavy metals is of synergetic character and invokes more pronounced cell pathologies (cell wall abnormalities, degeneration and destruction of chloroplasts and nucleus, etc.).
