The authors consider the change in the understanding of the reception of a literary work. Such an understanding shift can be observed in the historical, literary and cultural context in general . The investigation is based on the new conceptions which developed in the literary theory. The work is also connected with the most recent concepts, theories and studies (the crisis of the subject, intertextuality; axiological, anthropological, intermedial turns in the history of literature, cultural in particular postcolonial studies etc.; reconstruction/deconstruction of the canon; the influence of ideology on the literary canon as well as on the reception of the literary works, semiotic approach to the study of literature and culture). The scholars who worked on the topic wrote a number of articles on the problem of literary reception taken from the theoretical point of view. The results of the work can be used in teaching, they are also idispensable for those who write textbooks, and important for various investigations connected with the theory of reception.
