It is shown that treatment of wheat coleoptiles with nitric oxide (NO) donors activates defence responses necessary for the development of resistance to heat stress. Induction of these reactions is accompanied by increased generation of syperoxide anion-radical by coleoptiles and leveled with inhibitors of NADPH oxidase. Treatment of two varieties of spring wheat with NO donor induces their systemic resistance under natural drought.
