Purpose of the work is to form the informative base of documentation and registration materials about historical book collections, archives, museums, church and private libraries; to investigate the fate of libraries and manuscript collections during and after World War II; to find out the contemporary situation with Ukrainian cultural heritage and problems of its research. More detailed research is still needed for the libraries of scientific, church institutes, educational societies, archives and museums; an information about private library collections of the Ukrainian, political and religious public figures is not sufficient. This research was also aimed to trace the post-war fate of book and manuscript collections of emigrant centres in Poland and collect corresponding materials. Scientific description of specific historical collections was studied and carried out. A computer database of manuscript and book collections in Poland and the basic institutions of publications about them was complied on the base of Edward Hvalyevik's book "Zbiory polskie" (1929)".
