Development and formation of a cartographical database as well as a reference guide for the practical work with cartographic documents. Research methods are statistical, analytical, comparative and descriptive. Results of research and innovation: on the base of collection research a data base of ancient cartographic documents was complied (151 units). To implement cartographic documents XVI-XX centuries to the scientific use, 192 scientific descriptions of ancient atlases, ethnic and Austrian topographic maps of Ukrainian lands were made, based on the software package CDS / ISIS 1.4 for Windows. Foreword was written for Catalog "Topographic maps of Ukrainian lands, issued by Military Geographical Institute in Vienna (1870-1918): Information from the study of cartography department of Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukraine in Lviv" as well as directories complied.
