The quantum-chemical calculations confirmed the applicability of starch as the organic component of hybrid organic-inorganic coatings on steel surface containing iron oxides. The coatings based on potassium silicate and water-soluble starch demonstrated the anticorrosion performance. The coatings based on methylsiloxane oligomers also exhibited anticorrosion effect due to surface hydrophobisation.
