Subject area: the system of social relations in the field of the expanded reproduction of agricultural production in rural society. Objectives of the research: to substantiate theoretical and methodological bases and applied aspects of transition to socioeconomic model for developing domestic agricultural sector on the local level, that would mitigate contradictions between the objectives to build up agricultural production and the interests of rural communities, and to consolidate their efforts and assets in order to improve the quality of rural life. Research methodology: economics and statistics, historical and economics, system, comparative and dimensional analysis, calculated and constructive, abstract-logical and analog approach. Scientific results: socioeconomic approach to the assessment of the operation results and agriculture development prospects was substantiated; institutional constraints were defined and proposals to overcome them were given in order to insure growth is social prosperity and advanced changes of rural communities; socioeconomic imperatives of the agricultural sector development were defined, mechanism for achieving them on the basis of partner cooperation between government institutions, business groups and rural communities were designed. A conceptual logframe of the asset-targeted approach to local development on the basis of local assets was designed; the forms of social organization in the local development system were identified, capital interaction mechanisms were reasoned. A concept "Agricultural sector socioeconomic modernization" was build up, implementation of which uncovers the possibilities to harmonize aagricultural production objectives and rural society interests, with aim to enhance social prosperity; providing sustainable rural development in Ukraine on the basis of effective use and increase of rural community assets. The concept took a basis in the strategic initiative of the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine - the Project "Home village". Research findings were given to the public in various scientific reports and policy briefs, delivered to central government authorities of the country.
