Goal of research: - Study and evaluation of major characteristics of demographic and socio-economic status of families in Ukraine; - Determination of principal trends with respect to the status of families in Ukraine over the last ten years; - Research on peculiarities of value orientations of modern young families. - Analysis of implementation of national family support programs. Research Relevance The recent socio-economic, cultural and political transformations caused the family institution transformation. This process has resulted in ultralow birthrate, high level of divorces, rapid growth in illegitimate births and one-parent families, social orphanhood, etc. Each year the families with two or more children dramatically decrease in number. The research relevance is stipulated by the necessity for making the effective strategy aimed at enhancement of prestige of the two-parent several-children families for the modern Ukrainian youth. Research Methods The general scientific and specific methods were used to achieve the set goal. Namely: methods of structural analysis, generalization and synthesis; induction and deduction; document analysis; expert appraisals; systems approach.Several hypotheses were tested in the course of the research. In particular:- Determination and description of the family birth rates shall enable to bring the necessity for changes in the public family policy into focus as well as to reason the necessity for modernization of approaches to typologization of families and implementation of managerial decisions in the sphere of the family policy;- Analysis of the measures of the public family policy; - Concretization of the essence, goal, subject and object of the family policy shall enable to define objectively the prospects of the family policy modernization as an integral and consistent system.The practical value is called forth by ability to use the research materials by the authorities in the course of drawing up the national family support programs, improvement of the national legislation aimed at the family institution development and support, etc. Basic notions: family, children, fertility, nuptiality, parenthood status, divorce rate, marriage age, number of children, mother, father, parents, family social status, financial situation of families, poverty, welfare, family values, value orientations, domestic violence, prevention of domestic violence, gender equality, national family support programs, problem-free family, social assistance, family support.
