The purpose of this research is to develop effective methods of influence growth defects of different type and scale on the functional characteristics of the CuIn5S8, CuIn5Se8, CuIn5Te8 compounds and find a means to determine their quality. Structural studies of multi-layered compounds CuIn5X8 (XS, Se, Te) have shown that they contain a variety of two-dimensional and three-dimensional defects. Based on new algorithms for results processing of a comprehensive study of the defects effect on the dielectric, photovoltaic and thermal properties and their analysis using universal indexes show that the main reason for the outstanding technical and diagnostic problems is the spatial heterogeneity of the elastic and electric fields of these defects. It causes an anomaly high physical parameters and practically important phenomena, which on the one hand lead to individuality: dynamic structure of photoresponse, the defects energy spectrum, relaxation and other processes. And on the other hand make difficult to analyze the results of the study and determine the quality of the CuIn5X8 (XS, Se, Te) compounds. Based on summarizing the analysis of complex research of the CuIn5X8 (XS, Se, Te) compounds the criteria and integrated quality are developed. It is shown that the application of the unique properties of ternary compounds on the one hand determined by the crystal modification (hexagonal or tetragonal) or a mixture thereof, and on the other hand determined by the spatial ordering of defects of various types and sizes.
