During performance of the phase 2 of the project areas for specific binding with substrates (Phe298, Ala299 and heme) and inhibitors (Phe106, Leu210, Thr212, Leu215, Gln216, Val364 and Phe478) in the active site of the enzyme were identified for the first time. Modeling of the cytochrome P450 2E1 spatial structure and identification of main characteristics of its interaction with ligands made it possible to characterize the topology of the enzyme active site and to facilitate understanding of mechanisms of its functioning.
