The effect of acetylcholine is mediated by nicotinic acetylcholine receptors of 7 subtype ( 7 nAChRs); their activation inhibits the intracellular signaling cascade including phosphorylation of ERK 1 and 2 kinases. B lymphocyte signaling, accompanied by the increase of intracellular Ca2+, does not require the opening of 7 nAChR ion channel, but is triggered by allosteric (conformational) changes in its molecule stimulated by either agonist or competitive antagonist binding. The rise of intracellular Ca2+ level occurs due to other than 7 nAChR ion channels of the B lymphocyte plasma membrane under the effect of Ca2+ released from intracellular stores.
