Paton Electric Welding Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2 An extensive use of aluminum alloys in various fields of mechanical engineering is specified by a set of peculiarities which are missing in other construction materials. Besides a high specific output, the majority of aluminum alloys are heat-resistant, corrosion-resistant, substantially protect from penetrating radiation and differ from other materials by an increased tensile strength at break at temperature decrease up to 4.2 К. Therefore, aluminum alloys have been widely used in aircraft industry so far and considered to be highly promising in the future. In order to increase the operational characteristics, reliability and service life of weldments, the integrated study on weldability of both applied aluminum alloys type D16, В95 and new super-hard alloys, alloyed by lithium, scandium, zirconium using an electron-beam welding in vacuum was carried out. New design and technological concepts were offered when replacing some airplane units riveting by their welding analogues, which should substantially facilitate their manufacturing and highly benefit to reduce weight indices. The technique of stringer panels production by welding edges to sheets using an electron beam was developed. Mechanical tests of this kind of structure patterns showed their compliance with the basic metal peculiarities. The technique of bimetallic structures from stainless steel + aluminum alloy and titanium + aluminum alloy, which are highly promising for application in new airplane models, was developed. The optimized welding process parameters, the software for implementing the production methods without human factor effect on the quality and application of assembly fixtures to reduce residual deformation, were subject to complete testing at manufacturing both coupons for mechanical tests and welded structure patterns. All investigations and technique developments were carried out using the advanced industrial equipment for electron-beam welding, that does not require any expenditures for commercial introduction of developments in manufacturing application.
