The subject of the research is the direction of reforms and indicators of success of their carrying out in the country and its regions. Research methods: structural analysis and synthesis to determine the periodization of economic reforms in Ukraine and other countries of the world; a cluster analysis to group regions of the country on the main indicators of socio-economic development; a matrix approach to the positioning of the branches of the economy of the country in the plane of the "change of the price - changing volumes of production of" with a view to study the impact of reform measures on the results of the activity of the enterprises by branches of industry. Investigated the starting conditions on the eve of the transition period in Ukraine, assessed their impact on the choice of the directions of reforming of the economy after independence. Defined periodization of the reforms in Ukraine and other countries of the world, highlighted the main directions of economic transformations and evaluated their impact on the totality of socio-economic indicators. Held clustering of regions of Ukraine for the main indicators of socio-economic development, which allowed to determine the trend to increase the number of problem regions and to make the conclusion about an insufficient efficiency of the reforms. Applied matrix approach to the positioning of the branches of industrial complex of Ukraine in order to assess the impact of reforms in the direction of "the liberalization of prices" on the volumes of sales of products for these industries.
