The objective of the work is the development of manufacturing technology corundumcontent plugs for the bottom blowing of metal in steel ladles. Research methods are - chemical, physical-mechanical, petrographic.The research to obtain fused on block calcium hexa-aluminate from alumina and chalk (in a ratio of 90: 10) is carried out. Fused block is represented in the selvage part (~ 42 %) 85-95 vol. % calcium hexa-aluminate and 3-7 % corundum, in the central part (~ 58 %) - 65-75 vol. % calcium hexa-aluminate and 25-35 % calcium di-aluminate. Calcium hexa-aluminate properties is as follows: mass fraction, %: SiO2 - 0,19, Al2O3 - 91,9, Fe2O3 - 0,22, CaO - 7,4; open porosity 21,1%, apparent density 2,74 g/cm3.Comparative study of fused calcium hexa-aluminate quantities (5, 15, 25%) influence (instead of fused corundum) on basic properties of corundum and corundumspinel samples after firing at temperature 1580 °С is done. Found that the introduction to the corundum samples calcium hexa-aluminate addition in quantity from 5 up to 25 % reduces the open porosity from 21,5% to 20,0%, increases bulk density from 3,08 g/cm3 up to 3,10 g/cm3 and cold crushing strength from 132 up to 164 MPa. Heat resistance of samples increases from 1 up to 4 thermo-cycles (1300 °C-water) with the introduction of 25 % calcium hexa-aluminate addition to the mix samples.Properties of corundumspinel samples without and with 5 % calcium hexa-aluminate addition are almost identical. A further quantity increase of calcium hexa-aluminate addition from 5 up to 25 % in a mix samples leads to increase open porosity from 18,6 up to 19,6 %, decrease bulk density from 3,14 to 3,05 g/cm3 and cold crushing strength from 197 to 166 MPa and does not affect their heat resistance.The slag resistance researches of these samples are done. Found that increasing content of calcium hexa-aluminate addition from 5 up to 25 % in corundum samples leads to reduce in 1,75 and 1,32 times the erosion and impregnation areas, respectively. Introduction of 5 % calcium hexa-aluminate addition in corundumspinel samples results in a slight reduce erosion area - 1,05 times. The increase calcium hexa-aluminate addition from 5 up to 15 and 25 % in corundumspinel samples results in increase erosion area in 1,3 and 1,37 times, respectively.As a result of the carried out researches it is established that corundum samples with 25 % calcium hexa-aluminate addition compared to corundumspinel samples without and with 5 % calcium hexa-aluminate addition have in 1,3 times less erosion area. Considering the high base properties of corundum samples with 25 % calcium hexa-aluminate addition and lower cost of raw materials for the fused calcium hexa-aluminate manufacture compared to fused aluminamagnesia spinel the corundum samples with 25 % calcium hexa-aluminate addition are optimal.According to the research results, carried out in this paper, project of the change № 2 to TI 24-IR-185-2010 with the change № 1 for obtain fused on block calcium hexa-aluminate and project of the technological instruction for manufacturing fired refractory insert of corundum composition to blowing plugs are develop.As a result of carried out research a new kind of product is develop - corundum blowing plugs with calcium hexa-aluminate addition.At the pilot plant Institute under contract for metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine pilot batches of bottom blowing plugs., which properties correspond to requirements of TS U23.2-00190503-349:2012 for ПКШ brand, are made.Work should continue in the direction of further improvement production technology of blowing plugs and increasing their production and use.
