Object of investigation: mechanisms of animal and human adaptation to high altitude, carbohydrate metabolism, development of hypometabolic state. Aim: To establish glucose-mediated physiological, molecular, genetic and biochemical mechanisms of development and reduction of hypometabolic state under acute and periodic hypoxia on the plain, acute and long-term adaptation to high altitude hypoxia and during exercise. Methods: The functional studies of respiration and gas exchange, cardiovascular system and oxygen transport (transthoracic impedance rheopletysmography, rheoencephalography, rhythmocardiography, oxyhemometry), electrophysiological, physiological, polarographic, biochemical, molecular biological, mathematical. The glucose-mediated mechanisms of hypometabolic state development in the plains and in the high altitude, accompanied by changes in respiration and gas exchange, systemic blood flow, rate of oxygen uptake in whole body and tissues, blood glucose, mitochondrial respiration have been established. The mechanisms of the hypometabolic state modulation under glucose overload, acute and periodic hypoxia influence, and psychophysiological work were elucidated. The mathematical model of the rate of glucose uptake has been developed. The features of activation of cellular glucose transporters GLUT1 and GLUT4 in chronic and periodic hypoxia were first detected. For the first time, phase changes of energy metabolism, gas exchange, mitochondrial function during periodic hypoxia, and during recovery from acute hypoxia were found. The role of HIF-1alpha and HIF-3alpha mRNA expression in the activation of molecular and genetic mechanisms under the high altitude and periodic hypoxia influence in the rat has been established. CHRONIC, PERIODIC AND ACUTE HYPOXIA, HYPOMETABOLIC STATE, GLUCOSE TRANSPORT, ADAPTATION, FUNCTIONAL SYSTEM OF RESPIRATION, CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM, MITOCHONDRIA, HIF-1alpha, HIF-3alpha.5481 Product Description popup.authors
