Purpose - to draft the optimization of rural landscapes on the example of rural settlements Borinya, Rosluch, Busovysko, located in the Upper, Middle and Lower Beskids of the Ukrainian Carpathians. The study found that at certain stages of model villages development land use experienced changes that affected the efficiency of reclamation. Efficiency of land use decreased or was increased depending on the economic and socio-political conditions. On the basis of measurements and calculations of the main types of plant communities-ameliorants areas reclamation effectiveness ratios for each model settlement as of 2012 were defined, as well as their dependence on the percentage of arable lands, forests, meadows and pastures. Model villages develop under the influence of socio-economic factors. Demographic situation, production and economic potential of the settlements do not facilitate their transition to sustainable development by their own economic and financial resources. Proposals are aimed at optimizing the rural landscapes of the reduced intensity of agricultural lands and forests use and the negative demographic and economic trends overcome.
