The goal of the investigation is to study the effects of nano analogs of metal oxides and hydroxides on fire protective efficiency of the composites involving ethylene-vinylacetate copolymer and intumescent system ammonium polyphosphate/pentaerythritol/melamin and development of new technological solutions for reduction of combustibility of polymer materials and intumescent fire protective coatings. Research methods: IR spectroscopy (for identification of chemical transformations mechanism), flame tube experiments and thermogravimetry (studies on fire protective efficiency of antipyrens). Intumescent systems were studied at a wide variation in metal oxides and hydroxides and their nanoscaled analogs; a comparison examination of the effects of antipyrens on the formation and oxidation of polymeric coke layer was carried out over a temperature range 200 600 0С. The mixtures involving nano-particles of titanium and zinc oxides were found to be the most efficient. The novelty of the research is that the admixtures of nano oxides cause a considerable increase in fire protective efficiency of intumescent composite ammonium polyphosphate / pentaerythritol / melamin/ copolymer of ethylene with vinyl acetate. The most probable mechanisms of interaction of metal-containing compounds with copolymer and ammonium phosphate, which are responsible for thermal stability and mechanical strength of the coke residue, were established.
