Franko's scholarly methodological conceptions from the viewpoint of modern literary studies and folkloristics. Primary focus was placed on Franko's reception of methodological achievements of various folkloristic schools. Separate studies were dedicated to the scholar's critical views on the mythological, anthropological, migrational, comparative, cultural-historical and philological schools, in particular, to the specific application of prospective findings of each of the mentioned methodological platforms in Ivan Franko's folkloristic discourse. It was ascertained that the researcher from Lviv not infrequently forestalled his European colleagues offering novel ways of considering wealthy strata of the oral lore. It was remarked that I. Franko found it absolutely essential before analyzing the national folklore-literary material first of all to choose the methodological platform. The scholar demonstrated inherent scrupulousness in studying conceptual principles of the leading European schools, singled out "benefits and drawbacks" of each of them, and reviewed the aggregate existing achievements, which should be used in order to complete a high-quality research highlighting the internal character of the phenomenon in question. It was emphasized that Franko persisted in defying methodological eclectics and was convinced that no artificial combination of methodological findings of folkloristic schools differing both in ideology and strategy of scholarly research, lacking an integral conceptualization of the analyzed material will produce an acceptable result.
