Aim of the work: The main aim of the project in general was to create a novel system of integrated environmental observations of the Zmiinyi Island coastal waters' main characteristics for efficient assessment of quality of marine environment biodiversity, for development of the system to monitor marine ecosystems in order to ensure the "Zmiinyi Island" research station inclusion into the international system of marine monitoring stations of the Black Sea region. Standard methods of taking and analysis of environment samples that are recommended in Ukraine and in the EU have been used when performing the study. During the period of the work performed were observations of physicochemical and hydrobiological quality elements of the Zmiinyi Island coastal waters. Annual surveys have been carried out to study the state of the Zmiinyi Island coastal waters using physical, chemical and biological quality elements in accordance with the developed programme of studies. Based on the data of field surveys, consolidated report has been prepared about the field studies of the Zmiinyi Island coastal waters ecosystem performed in 2011-2012. Analytical conclusions on biodiversity quality state indicators' observation methodologies that have been recommended by the SEBI-2010 European initiative were prepared. The most efficient methodologies have been established and tested in the real conditions of the "Zmiinyi Island" research station. Practical recommendations for improvement of the Zmiinyi Island coastal waters' integrated monitoring system have been developed.
