Theoretical and practical results - the interaction of water molecules with the modifying layer of cation-active substance on the kaolinite surface and the hydration of molecular ions in solution are studied. The ion exchange constituent of the cetylpyridinium sorption by Na-vermiculite is analysed. The structural changes of vermiculite caused by the introduction of long-chain organic cation into its interlayer gaps are studied. The chemical modification of kaolinite surface by hydroxoaluminium nanoclusters is performed. The spectral evidence is obtained of the formation of hydrogen bond between the carboxyl groups of fulvic acid and hydroxyl groups of aluminium hydroxocations. Novelty - for the first time ever the heat of interaction between the long-chain organic cation with vermiculite is measured. Using the IR spectroscopy method, the interaction between carbonyl and beta-diketonic groups of fulvo- and humic acids with Lewis acidity centres - co-ordinately unsaturated Al3+ cations of Al13 nanoclusters is shown to exist. Efficiency of implementation - the obtained results enable the purposeful choice of the proper modifier which would enable to control the selectivity of modified minerals with respect to different organic anions.
