Vernadsky University popup.description2 The objects of this scientific - research work are the history of ethno-formative processes, the formation and development of confessional communities, cultural traditions of the ethnoses of the Crimea, interethnic and inter-confessional relations in the region. The subject of the research is new archive, bibliographic, archaeological, numismatic, epigraphic and ethnographic materials on the history of the peoples of the Crimea. The aim is the complex study of ethnic, cultural and confessional specificity of the peoples of the Crimea taking into consideration the newly obtained materials, the problems of their co-existence in historic retrospection, revelation of the reasons of conflicts originating on the ethnic and religious grounds and studying historic experience of such conflict resolution. Introduction into scientific circulation new data and writing scientific works on the results of these researches. As the result of the undertaken research work new archaeological and numismatic materials on the history of the Crimea of the 3rd - 14th centuries were obtained; they enabled to single out a new period in the political and economic history of Chersonesos of the Roman epoch; to mark inter-confessional split of its population; adjust dating of coin mint of Bosporus. Archaeological material, written and epigraphic sources enabled to identify ethnic groups due to the peculiarities of funeral rite, traditional costumes, weapon, and household utensils as well as typology of house, planning of settlements, economic activities. The typology of decorations dating back to the 5th - 7th centuries was developed; reconstruction of clothes of early medieval population of the Crimea basing on the materials of excavations of the necropolis near the village of Luchistoye was performed. Unique documents on the history of different ethno-confessional groups of the Crimea are introduced into scientific circulation; namely on Karaites and Crimean Tatars. The activities of different commissions and individual representatives of authorities on property (vakufs), social, inter-confessional and inter-ethnic problems of the Crimea in the 18th -19th centuries are examined. Inter-relations of the indigenous population with state administration and among communities, problems of education with due regard to national character of the population are traced. Positive result of government measures on integration of the Karaites and Crimean Tatars into the Russian language and cultural space is recorded. The obtained data of the research demonstrate opportunities of the authorities to take into consideration poly-confessional specificities of the region, readiness to generate laws directed to harmonize inter-ethnic and inter-confessional relations in Crimea. New data obtained in the course of fulfilling scientific research work and published in prestigious scientific publications are the scientific base for historians, teachers, students, museum workers and guides, as well as for officials involved in problems of national policy of Ukraine.
