Subject area: to overcome the "subsidiarity" syndrome (secondary and economically unviable) of family farming, forced on rural population and society in general during collective and state farming; to create the rural people perception of a farming (family) household as an independent economic entity, the main place for labour application and source of income. There was investigated households contribution to the achievement of the objectives of the agricultural and rural development in Ukraine, main problems and limiting factors of effective functioning of these households in the domestic agricultural sector. There was carried out a comparative analysis of organizational and legal activity support for households in Ukraine and other countries; there was assessed marketability, effectiveness and competitiveness as well as forms and methods of government influence for improving the abovementioned characteristics of the domestic households. There were substantiated the proposals to form favorable institutional environment for family households functioning, their complete integration into market mechanisms of the agricultural sector development and on the stimulation of farming households self-identity as producers of commodity output. Was developed: the draft concept of the Law of Ukraine "On the groups of households and their associations in agricultural sector", the Model of creating rural machine and technological cooperatives that includes projects of standard statutes and activity regulations for these associations; were elaborated the recommendations for improving organization and activity of sales cooperatives.
