M.I.Sitenko popup.description2 Object - bone mineral density (BMD) of human vertebrae before and after spinal fusion, osteoreparative potential. Aim - study BMD of human vertebrae of spinal unit of patients with osteochondrosis before and after spinal fusion, estimate state of intervertebral discs and osteoreparative potential for prevention of degenerative changes progress in spine. Methods - bone densitometry, clinical and radiological, morphologic, statistical analysis. 813 patients were studied. BMD analysis of lumbar vertebrae of 445 women and 112 men in six age groups were carried out. In all age groups BMD of vertebrae L I was minimal. BMD was increasing to caudal direction gradually. Maximal BMD was found in vertebrae L IV. During analysis of vertebrae BMD of 159 patients with osteochondrosis it was shown significant decrease BMD in all vertebrae. BMD of vertebrae before and after spinal fusion of 65 patients was studied. There were patients with normal characteristics or osteopenia and osteoporosis. Significant decrease of BMD in vertebrae of patients with osteopenia and osteoporosis was found. BMD study can be used as noninvasive method, which allows monitoring of state of bone on different terms after spinal fusion. Osteoreparative potential was investigated using stromal cells of bone marrow which were cultivated with patients' blood serum. Statistical significant relationship between BMD and osteoreparative potential, which mediated of blood serum composition, was found. Findings makes it possible to show of early disturbances in adjacent segments, that assists timely correction and enhancement of quality of patients treatment.
