Theworkpurposeis to create, based on the investigation of physical processes occurring in thermoelectric power converters, the technological fundamentals andto develop thermoelectricdevices for vehiclesthrough use of which fuel saving is achieved and the environmental performance is improved. Methodsfortheoreticalresearchandcomputerdesignofthermoelectric generators for vehicles and determination of their basic characteristics have beendeveloped. Theoreticalbasicshave beencreatedtodescribetheoperationofthermoelectric devices for vehicles in steady-state and dynamic operating conditions. Characteristicsofexhaustsystemsofvariousvehicleshave been obtainedbothforsteady-stateanddynamicengineoperatingmodes. Computerprogramshave beencreatedforthecalculationanddesignofoptimalthermalgenerators for vehicles according to input parameters of exhaust gases in steady-state and dynamic operating modes. Designofthermoelectricgeneratorsutilizing the exhaust gas heat of diesel and petrol engines has beenperformed. Basedontheexhaustgascharacteristicsofvarious-purposevehicles, optimalthermoelectricgeneratorsand their components - thermoelectric modules and heat-exchange systems have beendesigned. Prototypesofthermoelectricgeneratorsfortherecoveryofexhaustgasheatfrominternalcombustion engines have been created that outperform well-known world counterparts. Thescientificnoveltyandsignificanceofobtainedresultsisthatcomputeroptimizationyieldedconstructionswhichoutperformthewell-knownworldanalogsandholdgoodpromiseforapplicationontransportvehicles. Theresultsofperformingtheworkhavebeenput into practice in conformity with a contract with company Daimler AG (Germany) for the design of thermoelectric generator for a hybrid vehicle.
