Galkin Physics and Engineering Institute of National Academy of Science of the Ukraine popup.description2 At this stage, we investigated the effect of spontaneous and induced electric and magnetic polarizations on the processes of electromagnetic waves of TM and TE type refraction in the region of total internal reflection. The analysis was performed for both spatially homogeneous media and for layered structures with magnetic, ferroelectric and semiconductor materials, as well as multiferroics. In particular, we find the conditions under which the interfaces of the dielectric unpolarized and polarized spatially homogeneous materials, heterostructures and one-dimensional photonic crystals on the basis of the above media may fourfold increase evanescent waves TM and TE type in the region of total internal reflection. It is shown that these conditions correspond to the formation of the exceptional surface waves at the interface of polarized and non-polarized media in which the flow of energy through the interface at any given time is zero. The criteria, under which in the case of a non-zero electric or magnetic polarization is possible to implement the effect of "left-handed medium," even in the case of spatially homogeneous material with anisotropic spatially homogeneous magnetoelectric interaction, is defined. An example of such media can serve antiferromagnet with a center of antisymmetry in a constant electric field or magnetoelectric multiferroic. It is shown that in these conditions the realization of the Goose-Hanchen shift is due to two mechanisms, caused by magnetoelectric interaction and gyrotropy.
