The purpose of developing proposals and recommendations to address the problems of unemployment in Ukraine in order to reduce and stabilize the labor market in the process of social and economic policy. Methods. Socio-economic assessment of the volume, the level and trend of unemployment carried out based on economic and statistical methods, causal analysis. To justify proposals for reducing unemployment, including taking into account effects of regulatory policy on the employment rate in Ukraine, applied comparative, cognitive, heuristic, predictive methods. Results. The study identified the theoretical and methodological approaches to the problems of unemployment population of Ukraine, studied legal framework regulating unemployment at the present stage of development of the labor market, the estimation of the structure, causes of unemployment in Ukraine, the tendencies of differences in assessments filed and general labor market; conducted a causal analysis of unemployment in general and for certain population groups, developed and presented proposals to identify trends and ways (leverage) reducing unemployment at the national labor market in Ukraine. Field implementation. The study is expected to use in shaping state policy of employment in the labor market of Ukraine in developing employment programs, in particular with a view to reducing unemployment, development and implementation of an active policy on the labor market, the removal of structural deformations in employment, overcoming mass unemployment and so on. The results are intended for use by the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, the State Employment Service, and other executive agencies to reducing unemployment in the labor market of Ukraine in modern terms.
