The work was carried out according to order of Ukrainian State Committee of Industrial Policy № 240 from 30.08.2000. Research method - a search and choice of scientific and technical information sources, retrieval of information and its analysis, preparation and review of latest achievements in the field of development of railway rolling stock and municipal services for 2009-2010 years. Taking into account researches carried out earlier main directions of railway rolling stock and municipal services and also their units and components development were specified. Analysis of production present state and technical level of mechanical production was carried out. Scientifically based recommendations for developing a scientific and technical direction "Railway rolling stock and municipal services" were worked out.
