A technique for acoustic data processing and acquisition with multi-and single beam echosounders was developed to provide the co-analysis of 3-D bathymetry and bottom surface back-scattering strength. The bottom surface back-scattering strength was found to be much higher at mud volcanoes areas, where gas hydrates are usually detected in sediment cores and at deepwater gas discharge areas which are not related to the phenomenon of mud volcanism, than in the background areas.
