Object of investigation - methods and devices of measure of the methane content in mine workings and their technical parameters. Aim of the work - creation of a special intrinsically safe, explosion-proof device with continuous automatic determination of the methane content in the air of the mine workings of the mines on the modern scientific-technical level for its use by the mine-rescue sub- units under conditions of an active underground fire. Methods of investigations - informational and theoretical investigations of the measurement methods, development of the devices with continuous automatic determination of the methane content in the air of the mine workings and laboratory investigations of the experimental model of the special methane meter for the use under extreme gas and climatic conditions of the coal mines to determine and substantiate its technical parameters. As a result of fulfilment of the research scientific works the special methane meter with continuous automatic determination of the methane content in the air of the mine workings of the mines has been developed. The methane meter has a fast-acting thermocatalytic sensor to measure the pre-explosive contents ТХМ-2,8 and an optical infrared sorption sensor of the "DYNAMENT" Co., type MSHіa-P-HC, with a measurement range of the volume fraction up to 100 %. The combination of the optical and thermocatalytic measurement channels allows creating the methane meter with the characteristics that exceed the requirements of the normative documents for the measurement range of the volume fraction of methane up to 100 % under extreme gas and climatic conditions. The introduction of the special methane meter in the sub-units of the State Paramilitary Mine-rescue Service of the Ukraine permits to guarantee objectivity and reliability of the estimation of the air conditions in the mine working during the active fire, improvement of the working conditions of the mine rescuers, increase of efficiency and safety of carrying-out the search-and-rescue operations.
