The ideological and historical sources as well as the theoretical and methodological importance of the concept of state and national state have been determined. The international factors of the historical evolution of the institute of national state have been analyzed. The interpretation of nationalism as one of the main factors of evolution of the institute of national state has been given. The regulative role of national state under conditions of the system crisis of modern world economy has been substantiated. The specific features of state formation processes in the present-day international relations have been explained. The interrelation between such basic characteristics of modern international relations as the international integration and collective security as well as possible directions of the further evolution of the institute of national state has been substantiated. The institutional alternatives to national state and sources of its potential in the modern international relations have been determined.
