Characterizations of population peculiarities of 10 model critical species and ecological features of 20 species are prepared on the basis of field geobotanical and ecological surveys and analysis of other available data. For 10 model critical species, specific proposals on their conservation are made. The system of IUCN categories and criteria adapted for Ukraine is developed for assessment of species of plants and fungi. Taxonomic status of 15 critical species is defined based on analysis of herbarium materials and available modern taxonomic, phylogenetic and other data. For 40 model species, treatments are prepared in accordance with guidelines for the collection, preparation and submission of standardized materials on species of the Red Data Book of Ukraine. Justifications for model species of plants and fungi for their inclusion in and exclusion from the next edition of the Red Data Book of Ukraine and lists of such species are compiled.
