Semenenko Institute of Geochemistry, mineralogy and Ore Formation popup.description2 Collection of samples of iron oxides and hydroxides from iron ore deposits of the Krivoy Rog area, Kerch region and the Ural region are created. The phase composition, magnetic properties, chemical composition of the samples from created collections were determined. The effect of temperature, acid-base and redox conditions and magnetic fields on the processes of transformation of the crystal structure and properties of goethite and hematite to magnetite and maghemite were investigated. Relatively simple and cost-effective way to convert weakly magnetic minerals (goethite, hematite ) into strong magnetic minerals (maghemite and magnetite) were developed. Procedures of transformation of goethite and hematite by temperature treatment in the presence of reducing agents were performed. It was shown by the method of XRD that after special treatment phase of hematite and goethite disappear and a new phase of magnetite appear. It is shown that the saturation magnetization is increased by 10-50 times after special treatment compared to the initial samples. Novelty of developed techniques is that the process of phase transformation does not require high temperatures.
