Bogomoletz NAS of Ukraine popup.description2 The effect of potential-dependent Na+- and K+-uptake on the membrane potential (??m), oxygen consumption and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in mitochondria was studied. The dependence of ROS production on ??m, and its decrease due to Na+- and K+-induced membrane depolarization was established. The critical dependence of ROS production on calcium was established. It was shown that NO-synthase activity contributes ~20% in Ca2+-dependent ROS production, which was as well sensitive to ??m and decreased with Na+- і K+-induced depolarization.
