In the course of our work we introduced and trialed 188 samples and 144 species of fodder plants, 463 samples and 279 species of medicinal plants and 46 samples and 29 species of industrial plants. As of the end of 2013, the collection of less common fodder plants includes 429 samples, 155 species, 64 cultivars, 6 varieties belonging to 41 genera and 11 families; the collection of medicinal plants includes 397 samples, 369 species, 9 varieties belonging to 219 genera and 57 families; industrial plants collection includes 162 samples, 73 species, 29 cultivars, 6 varieties belonging to 48 genera and 17 families. The traditional classifications of plant resources were revised with regard of their use in the degraded lands restoration. The resources were allocated in two groups: environment forming and productive ones. The phytoresource potential of the Donetsk Botanical Garden collection and representation of the aboriginal and world flora in this collection were determined, as well as the world flora species distribution. The classification of the degraded lands of the south-east of Ukraine was made, providing differentiation of these lands according to the degree of their transformation. The species richness and structural-functional features of phytocenoses characterized by different stages of vegetation demutation was investigated in the degraded lands. It was proved that the density and age stricture of Adonis wolgensis Steven, Salvia nutans L. And Plantago urvillei Opiz cenopopulations are indicative of the natural steppe ecosystems' condition under the influence of different anthropogenous factors. Eight natural models of phytocenoses, including five medicinal plants (Echinacea purpurea (L.) Moench, Filipendula vulgaris Moench, Betonica peraucta Klokov, Sanguisorba officinalis L., Oenothera biennis L.), were originated and investigated. These plant community models are applicable to restoration of the regional degraded lands. A comprehensive study of Achillea millefolium L. Hyssopus officinalis L., Inula helenium L., Salvia officinalis L., Calendula officinalis L. and Foeniculum vulgare L. has shown their potential use in veterinary. We have originated the cultivation technology for Kitaibelia vitifolia Willd., Silphium perfoliatum L. and Sida hermophrodita Rusby agricultural plantations. The named species have good prospects as energy crops for solid biofuels under steppe conditions of Ukraine. Due to a high seed yield, ecological flexibility, content and fatty acid composition of their vegetable fat, such species as Silybum marianum (L.) Gaertn., Carthamus tinctorius L. and Oenothera biennis L. proved to be high potential crops for biofuels. They also cause favorable changes in agrochemical soil characteristics. The allelopathic features of these crops were studied and the fodder plants next in crop-rotation. Sorghum saccharatum and Helianthus tuberosus proved to have good prospects for biofuels due to their high yield, sugar content, soil effects and potential bioethanol output. We have selected and investigated three selection forms of fodder plants (Agropyron pectinatum (M. Bieb.) Beauv., Arthenatherum elatius (L.) J. Presl & C. Presl., Trifolium pratense L.) and two highly energy selection forms (Oenothera biennis, Kitaibelia vitifolia). These forms proved to be highly productive, valuable due to their above-ground fodder mass, hardy of the natural climatic conditions of the region.
