The minimal size of nanoparticles of different types at which the fluorescent nanoparticles are promising for use as the inorganic content of polystyrene scintillation composites is estimated. For composite containing LaPO4-Pr nanoparticles with an average size of about 60 nm the obtained light yield is 2.4 times higher compared to pure polystyrene scintillator. It was shown that in the composites based on polystyrene matrix and luminescence nanoparticles the excitation energy transfer from the luminescent centers of nanoparticles to the polystyrene matrix is performed in non-radiative way.
