The data obtained suggest that Kv3.1/Kv3.2 voltage-gated potassium channels activation during action potential results in decreasing of calcium influx thus preventing the cells from its cytotoxic action during fast firing. Physiological role of this effect was confirmed in clinical morphological retinal investigations on glaucoma patients treated with calcium channels blockers.
