Paton Electric Welding Institute popup.description2 The main problem of crystallizer of continuous casting machine is the fast tearing of water-cooled copper walls. Some metallurgical works use the walls covered with nickel that is clad by means of electroplating or spraying technologies. Wear-resistant coverings clad by explosion welding look like promising too. The method preserves positive properties of the rolled cladding layer. The technology of cladding of copper plate with shield coverings of molybdenum, nickel, and Hastelloy C alloy was developed. The following tests were conducted: 1) wear test accompanied with high temperature; 2) wettability test of the coverings wet with liquid steel, copper, and slag-forming mixture. It was shown that the best covering is Hastelloy C alloy. Edge unbonded zone problem as well as water-cooled canals deformation problem were solved too.
