The research object is abandoned land and forest areas of the Lviv and Volyn regions and their representation on satellite images. The goal of research - exploring the use of multi-temporal (with shooting range 10-20 years) satellite imagery for studying land use changes on the dynamics of vegetation index . Based on changes in land use can be estimate the forest growing on non-forest areas in different periods, to determine the area and location of abandonment lands for further research opportunities agricultural land. For the processing multitemporal and multisensoral satellite images are tested image interpretation techniques using the modern methods of remote sensing data interpretation (Random Forest classification). For forest cover image interpretation were used modern field work technologies (field GIS "Field-Map", VERTEX). A thematic map of species groups on the territory of the study were done and analyzed it's accuracy based on different data - field data and digital maps of forest stands SE " Vladimir -Volyn LH" and SE "Rava- Ruska LH". Research methods. Development of computer technology makes it possible to simulate and analyze the spatial cover of forest stands and the modern remote sensing technologies provide new opportunities for forest assessment. Technologies include enhanced spatial, spectral, radiometric, geometric and temporal properties of space images. For remote sensing data interpretation used inductive and deductive research methods implemented in software products processing of remote sensing data in the form of algorithms - Random Forest classification. For creating digital maps of forest stands were used digitalization means in GIS systems. To study the changes and abandoned land were used change detection method.
