Komisarenko Institute of Endocrinology and Metabolism оf the Academy of Medical Scienses of Ukraine" popup.description2 Object.Immune status of patients with differentiated thyroid cancer of different age after radioiodine therapy: children and adolescents (up to 18 years), young adults (from 19 to 40 years) and elder persons (41 to 70 years). Aim of the work. Identify a possible age-related dependence of changes, caused by radioiodine therapy, in immunological indices in patients with thyroid cancer. Methods. Flow cytofluorimetry, immunoenzymic analysis, radiometric, spectrophotometric, immunological methods.Theoretical and practical implication. Based on the data of an immunological monitoring of thyroid cancer patients under radioiodine therapy, it has been established that administration of therapeutic activities of iodine-131 to patients with thyroid carcinoma leads to significant disturbances in immune system, namely:changes in subpopulation composition and immunophenotype of peripheral blood lymphocytes, inhibition of cytotoxic activity of killer cells and neutrophils, increase in the levels of circulating immune complexes. Age-related features of radioiodine effect on disturbances of immunological indices in thyroid cancer patients have been revealed: the spectrum of immune disturbances was shown to be somewhat wider in elder persons. Nevertheless, in young adults and in the group of children and adolescents the degree of changes in immune system is higher, and disturbances are observed in earlier terms. In all age groups (children and adolescents, young adults, and elder patients) the most significant changts in immune system due to radioiodine administration are reported in one month. Novelty. The method has been developed and patented for the detection of immune system cell injury in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer, who have received radioiodine therapy. Advantages over the current analogs. The use of the proposed method of assessment of immune system disturbances in thyroid cancer patients after radioiodine therapy ensures a higher informativity of determination of radiosensitivity of lymphocytes of different immunophenotype, whose changes reflect the impact of radioiodine on immune system cells and point out possible development of secondary immune deficiency, which determines the rationale for using immune therapy in the combined treatment of these patients in order to improve their quality of life. Sphere of use. Radiation biology, radiotherapy, oncology.
