The subject of research are the obituaries and biographical materials, published in Ukrainian periodicals of Galicia during 1848-1944. Objective: to create a database of obituaries and biographical materials published in Galician periodicals of the late 19th - first half of 20th c. The aim of the second stage is to select and systematize obituaries and bibliographical materials published in "Galichanyn", "Ruslan", "Pravda", "Vpered", "Diakivskyi prapor", "Zhyttia Holmshyny i Pidliashia", "Zhovkivski visti" , "Zborivski visti", "Nedilia", "Rada"; to complete the electronic database "Obituaries in the Ukrainian Galician periodicals of the late 19th - first half of 20th c.". Principles of research: objectivity, comprehensiveness, history, authenticity. Methods of research — bibliographic and descriptive complex analize. Research involved the creation of source database eminent personalities of Halychyna: identification and systematization of obituaries and bibliographical materials, putting them into scientific circulation. Results: in 2011 publications from "Ruslan" (1904-1907), "The Truth" (1927-1939), "Forward" (1918-1919, 1920), "Dyakіvsky Prapor" (1936), "Zhittya Kholmshchyna i Pіdlyasha" (1928), "Zhovkіvskі visti" (1941), "Zborіvskі vіsti" (1933-1938, 1941), "Nedіlya" (1936-1939), "Rada" (1926-1928) were analysed. 11,860 materіals were selected.
