The aim of the study is to identify the frequency of hypertension combination with various components of the metabolic syndrome in elderly patients, evaluation of metabolic neutrality, effectiveness and acceptability of different groups of antihypertensive drugs in elderly hypertension patients with MS components. Methods: patients completed questionnaire, measurements of body mass index and growth were taken, 24-hour blood pressure monitoring was performed, ECG, blood biochemical parameters were taken (urea, creatinine, glucose, cholesterol, HDL, triglycerides, calcium, potassium, sodium), the Atherogenic Index was measured. We identified well-established therapeutic efficacy and metabolic neutrality of antihypertensive drugs (telmisartan, amlodipine) in hypertensive elderly patients with MS components. We found the necessity of the investigation of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism in elderly patients with hypertension in order to detect hypercholesterolemia, impaired glucose tolerance or type II diabetes.
