The objective of the work is to determine the set of professionally important qualities of chiefs of guard of operatively-rescue service of civil protection, to make and test their psychological development. Methods: theoretical (analysis of current scientific literature on the personal development of the profession and professional competence, analysis of regulations governing the professional activities of chiefs of guard of operatively-rescue service of civil protection, synthesis of experimental data, classification, comparison ), empirical (observation, psychological diagnostics, surveys, expert evaluation, the analytic hierarchy), mathematical methods of processing the results of experimental research. Scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that for the first time there was identified a set of professionally important qualities that affects a professional activity of chiefs of guard of operatively-rescue service of civil protection, the essence of which processes is explained by the content of their professional activity, had the further development: understanding of the nature and content of professionally important qualities of chiefs of guard of operatively-rescue service of civil protection; there were systematized major stressors of professional environment of above mentioned professionals. The practical significance of the results of the study is that the scientific results obtained can be used in practice of the centers and departments of psychological support at Department of Civil Service of Ukraine of Emergencies in the regions and in the educational process of higher educational establishments in the State Service of Emergencies of Ukraine: the system of personnel selection of candidates for the initial position of the chiefs of guard of operatively-rescue service of civil protection, experts in the psychological centers of psychological support during the process of professional formation and development of chiefs of guard, in the professional training of cadets of higher educational establishments of the State Service of Emergencies of Ukraine.
