" To conduct comparative tests of strengthened knives and components of machines by high-speed friction for the purpose of the possibility of replacing deficient high-alloyed instrumental steel by strengthened constructional and low-alloyed steels. " To set the facilities of the work of knives in self-sharpening regime. Object of research: a technological process of manufacturing wood-cutting knives which includes the operation of strengthening using volumetric hardening of the whole body of knife or only of its working part and technological features of formation white layer on the steel surface. Methods of research: to meet the challenges of the project an integrated approach is proposed, it includes surface hardening, research of the structure and physical and mechanical properties of strengthened layer, research of the capacity during the strengthening, comparative researches of wear and blunt of the knives and wear of machine details.
