Ovcharenko Institute of biocolloidal Chemistry NAS of Ukraine popup.description2 The work is dedicated to the development of new polymeric materials - "smart" hydrogels, that capable to controllable and predictable change their properties in a desired direction influenced by small changes in the surrounding environment, as well as, nanocomposites based on them, interesting from the point of view of their further use in medicine, primarily for the production of systems with targeted controlled drug release, sensors etc. On the base of moderately hydrophobic hydrogel systems containing copolymers of acrylamide and N-Isopropylacrylamide incorporated with provitamin D, personal applicational dosimeters for UV radiation and hydrogel drainage tube for cleaning and acceleration of the healing of purulent wounds were created. The additional incorporation of photosensitizers (e.g., Methylene blue) in them, allowed us to obtain a new generation of drainage pipes with highly effective complex action, bactericidal effect of which is caused by passive diffusion of antimicrobial agents in combination with the generation during UV-irradiation of active singlet oxygen, which also has a high bactericidal activity. Methods for targeted delivery of specified therapeutic systems and controlled release of drugs from them under influence of electric and magnetic fields and small fluctuations in the pH value and temperature were developed. High biocompatibility of the synthesized hydrogels and nanocomposite based on them was also demonstrated.
