The mathematical model of a two-beam optical coal dust concentration meter was suggested, which is basis for the high accuracy prototype development by evaluating the particulate composition of dust. Dual-beam method for coal dust concentration and dispersion measuring was improved by compensating for the additional component of the meter temperature drift error in the range of +5 to + 35 °C (for the first channel in the 4.3 times, for the second - 7.8 times) due to the additional closed optical channel insertion. The high-speed dual-beam optical measuring instrument with temperature hardware compensation was developed and investigated, which combines two open optical measuring channels with different radiation wavelengths in one, through the use of a semi-transparent mirror and the separation in time of their work. This reduced the number of optical units, the total contamination and the metrological reliability of the measuring instrument was improved. A model sample of coal dust concentration and dispersion measuring instrument was developed with the hardware and software temperature and dust compensation for measuring instrument optical units, developed the software for experimental data processing in real-time. The conducting method of laboratory tests for coal dust concentration and dispersion measuring instrument of model sample was developed for assessing its sensitivity and metrological characteristics.
