Aim: Identification of the ways to improve the removal efficiency of synthetic organic matter, nitrogen compounds and radionuclides on the biotic modified abiotic sorbents. Methods: The determination of equilibrium and dynamic characteristics of biosorption of synthetic organic matter; identification of ANAMMOX-bacteria; kinetics and equilibrium adsorption of uranium (VI) and strontium compounds on biosorbent. The main results: It was determined that the modification of activated carbon (AC) by iron oxides leads to a more effective process of biosorption of aromatic matters on activated carbon due to the additional interaction of the surface groups with phenol derivatives molecules. This effect is most apparent at low equilibrium characteristics. The presence of ANAMMOX-bacteria in wastewater and natural waters of Ukraine is detected. The intensification of biological removal of nitrogen compounds from water was suggested owing to immobilization of ANAMMOX-bacteria on fibrous carriers and the use of plastic containers. The possibility of effective removal of uranium (VI) from water on biosorbent on basis of Bacillus polymyxa was shown.
