By transmission electron microscopy established dynamic changes of mitochondrial ultrastructure in longitudinal and radial direction in roots under clinorotation. It was found that from among root growth zones the mitochondria in the distal elongation zone were the most sensitive to the clinorotation. Using methods of real-time RT-PCR was shown that the relative amount of COX2 and AOX1 transcripts not significantly different in whole roots, root apex and zone of differentiation in the stationary control and under clinorotation, which indicates the absence of involvement of the activation of alternative oxidase gene expression in the adaptive response of plant mitochondria in the root of seedlings growing in simulated microgravity. It is considered that the regulation of the functional state of mitochondria in roots of seedlings under simulated microgravity performed by metabolites that directly regulate functioning of mitochondrial ETC.
